Unclaimed Property: Helping Families Find What’s Already Theirs

By: Brandon Beck

One of the most overlooked parts of settling an estate is unclaimed property. Not because it isn’t important, but because most families don’t know to look.

Part of our service is guiding families to find unclaimed property that may belong to them. This is one of the ways we support families beyond the service, helping ease both the emotional and financial weight that follows a loss.

Here’s a snapshot at 2025:

  • Total unclaimed property identified for families: $921,672.87
  • Largest single case: $174,811

What This Means for Families

Unclaimed property can include forgotten bank accounts, uncashed checks, insurance payouts, refunds, and other assets that were never collected. After someone passes, these often go unnoticed because no one thinks to look.

To be clear, we do not claim the money for families – our role is to identify potential matches and point families in the right direction so they can take the proper steps themselves.

Sometimes it’s a small amount. Sometimes it’s a life-changing amount. Sometimes we don’t find anything for a family.

However much we find, we conduct the search for every family because we believe that grieving families should have access to every dollar that belongs to them.
